Finding new joy in old friends

One unexpected pleasure during this miserable 2020 was reconnecting with some old friends I'd not seen for many years. Video calls between us, which we would have rejected out of hand previously, allowed us to meet, have a glass of wine and catch up on each other's lives. Sharing our experiences of life, loss, relationships, children, work, triumphs and disasters has been deeply moving. And boy have we laughed! Recollections of events from 20, 30 or even 40 years ago has reduced us to tears of laughter, especially with the perspective that age and experience brings.

It's all too easy to lose yourself in the here and now. To all my friends, thank you for your love and kindness and for reminding me of who I am. Here's to the next time we meet in person.

(That's me on the left, by the way, c.1987).
